April 2017 Empties

Im a little bit late this month with my April Product Empties, it’s been such a busy month and I haven’t managed to write a blog post at all in May yet. Must try harder!

Usually my Product Empties are mostly Skincare based, however I’m finding it very satisfying that this month I have sucessfully finished not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 4 Makeup items. I don’t know why but I always feel more pleased with myself when my Product Empties are Makeup items rather than Skincare based! So what are my Empties this month……

  • Lush Herbalism Face & Body Cleanser – I actually got this from a girl in a Facebook swapping group – I swapped her a broken Colourpop Supershock Eye Shadow (that’s sound really unfair I know but she really wanted it) and I have to say I am very pleased that I didn’t pay for it because I HATED it. Like literally HATED. It was just so weird. Firstly the consistency was just odd, it was like a sort of crumbly, green, bitty, mound and the idea is that you break a bit off and wet it in your hand and then it becomes a paste that you cleanse with. Maybe it’s because it was so bitty I didn’t like it much, but the smell didn’t help either, just awful. I just wasn’t a fan at all.
  • Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel – Funnily enough I also got this on Facebook, only this time I won it in a competition! I actually loved this! It was so smooth and creamy and it lathered up really nicely and also it smelt A-MAZING. I think I will definitely be purchasing this one myself.
  • Caudalie Moisturizing Sorbet – Yes I know this was in my Product Empties before but over the last year I seem to have accumulated lots of these little tubes from one place or another so I’m not going to waffle on about it because you’ve heard it all before, all I’ll say is that I really do like this moisturiser. I find it super refreshing & it smells great.
  • Lancôme Genifique Serum – I have to say that I wasn’t a big fan of this at all. I just don’t think it did anything. It just seemed to disappear into nothing on my skin, which might sound like something you would want from a serum but it didn’t even feel like I had put anything on, it made my skin feel so dry and it just wasn’t for me.
  • Bare Minerals Prep Step Moisture Set Radient Prep Cream – I’ve been absolutely loving this primer. At first I was a bit concerned that it would make me really oily and greasy looking because I already have an oily skin type but it doesn’t at all. It doesn’t dry completely matte, it definitely stays slightly dewy but it isn’t overly greasy. It doesn’t really have a fragrance, which is fine with me. It feels hydrating and smooth leaving the perfect base for my makeup. Plus, a little goes a long way – I’ve had this Primer since my birthday last year (may 31st!) and it’s only just ran out.
  • Tarte Tartiest Mascara – I got my first tube of this mascara in the QVC Tili Box and it very quickly became my favourite mascara, I always repurchase this everytime it runs out – I cannot live without it! It leaves my lashes looking volumised, long, lush and full. Also it doesn’t smudge underneath my eyes either which is great.
  • Bee Good Honey And Camelina Face Scrub – I really liked this face scrub because the little scrubby grains in it were tiny and that’s how I like them – in fact I think that’s the main reason why I didn’t like the Lush Herbalism, the grains were too bitty. This was just perfect, meaning that it wasn’t too harsh on my skin but it was grainy enough to give my face a really good revitalising scrub and get all the dead skin cells away. It wasn’t particularly fragranced like you might think it would be as the name would suggest but I’m not a huge fan of strong fragrances anyway in my skincare products.
  • L’Oréal Lumi Magique Highlighting Wand – Well what can I say about this little beauty! I have absolutely LOVED using this! It’s great for under your eyes – I’ve been applying my regular undereye concealer (Boujois Radiance Reveal) and then adding 2 dots of this and it brightens up that whole area so nicely. It mixes in with my concealer really nicely – no separation, no caking – and it just makes my eyes look so much more awake! No undereye dark circles for this tired mamma! Can’t recommend this enough.
  • Benefit Ready Set Brow – Not much to say about this except that it does exactly what you want it to – sets your brows perfectly in place for the day ahead – job done!

So that’s my Product Empties for the month of April. What did you use up last month ?

Roccabox April 2017

This month a new beauty box subscription service called Roccabox was launched. It retails at £10 a month plus £3.95 shipping and it includes 5 makeup, skincare or hair care products. Each month every box is put together by a social influencer and this first box was the turn of Pretty Ugly Blog owner Gabriella Pisani, fashion writer for Hello magazine. Roccabox does not offer a beauty profile for you to fill in so your box is tailored to your needs, everyone simply gets the same 5 items. Let’s jump in and see what was in this months box.

  • John Frieda Frizz Ease Original 6 effects serum (worth £6.99 on Feel Unique).
  • Crabtree & Evelyn La Source Hand Therapy Cream (£8 from the C&E website).
  • Kure Bizzare – The Natural Pedicure Ritual (£4.50 from the John and Ginger website).
  • Nails Inc Gel Effect Polish in the Shade  St James (£15 from the Nails Inc website
  • Smith and Cult Diary Of A Beauty Junkie Lip Lacquer (worth £23)

If we add all that up that is a box value of £57.49 which for a £13.95 spend is not all that bad! I’m quite happy with the contents of this box and will use everything except the Frizz Ease because I don’t get frizzy hair so I will be giving that to my mum.

What beauty boxes did you get in April?

My Current Skincare Routine – April 2017

So I thought it might be nice to share my current skincare routine with you. My skin at the moment is probably in the best condition it has been in a long time and I believe that is because, for possibly the first time in my life, I have a proper skincare routine. Up until about 25 I didn’t even use a moisturiser! I washed my face with whatever the cleanser was on offer at the supermarket at the time and then went straight on to applying my makeup. I can’t believe I never used to care! So baring that in mind I am very lucky to have the skin I have today. I’m 35 in a months time and whilst I do have some frown lines on my forehead, I definitely don’t have the skin of a 35 year old and because I want to keep it that way, I have now established a routine to suit my skin.

Typically my skin type is Normal/Oily with the oily bit being my T-Zone. From what I’m aware that is quite a comment skin type. Then on top of that I can get quite a bumpy forehead when my skin is congested. I don’t really have any visible or open pores but I do get redness around my nose, on my cheeks and on my chin, although that is not all the time. I’m also lucky enough to be able to say that I don’t often get spots, but when I do they are usually on my chin or forehead. I have quite dark undereye circles and my eyelids are yellow in colour.

The first part of any skincare routine should be cleansing and I have two preferred cleansers. The first is the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. I love using this every day. It just feels so nourishing and kind to my skin. It is great at removing my makeup and then leaving my skin feeling really fresh and clean. It doesn’t dry my skin out either like some products can.

The second cleanser I like to use is the Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter from The Body Shop and this one I like to use when I’ve done a face mask, particularly a stubborn clay one. I use this in conjunction with a face brush and gently buff the mask off my face to reveal soft, nourished skin underneath.

After I have cleansed my face I apply the Trilogy COQ10 Eye Recovery Concentrate and I do this morning and night. I’ve been using this now for about 6 weeks and I have definitely noticed and improvement to my eye area, I have specifically noticed that my under eye circles are much less dark than they used to be and considering that I am a sleep deprived mummy that is quite the achievement!

Next after I’ve used my eye treatment I use either my morning serum or my night time oil.

In the mornings I use the Niod Multi – Molecular Hyaluronic Complex. The first thing I have to say about this is, if I’m being brutaly honest, I cannot stand the smell, it smells like vinegar! But you have to get past that because honestly, this is THE BEST serum I have ever used on my face. It really has helped to improve the look and condition of my skin. You’ve just got to try it!

If it’s my night time skincare routine that I’m doing then I reach for the Argan+ Moroccan Rose Night Time Facial Oil. As you would expect from a night serum, it is greasier and heavier than something I would be comfortable using during the day, but in the morning I wake up with plump, hydrated, nourished skin.

The last part of my everyday skincare routine is moisturiser. The moisturiser I use in the morning is the Caudalie Face Lifting Moisturiser. I just find it so hydrating and it just feels so silky smooth, plus it doesn’t leave my skin feeling tacky once applied.

The moisturiser I use after my night time Cleanse is the Nip & Fab Soften – Kale Fix Moisturiser. This is a bit thicker than the Caudalie one and it does leave my skin feeling tacky after it has dried so I don’t like to use it during the day, but that’s not something I’m bothered about at night time, plus that aside I do really like this product because it really hydrates my skin during the night.

As well as the above routine which I do every day morning and night there are a few products that I use inbetween. One of which is the Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Mask from The Body Shop. I like to do this at least once a week to get a really deep clean and to clear my pores. I also pop on some collagen eye patches at the same time to plump up my undereye area.

As well as the using the face mask once a week I also use the MD Skincare Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel Pads. I use these twice a week and I really feel like these are helping to smooth out the little bumps on my forehead.

Lastly I use the Murad Blemish Spot Treatment on any nasty little spots that may pop up at any given time on my face.

So that my current skincare routine. What are you using at the moment and do you think it’s working ?

February 2017 Empties

This months Product Empties features quite a lot of makeup and beauty items because I didn’t do a January Empties as last month was so busy, so I saved them all up and have put them all in February’s post. I hope you’ve got a brew and a snack – your going to need it!

Here’s the products that I’ve used up over the last 2 months –

Unani Il-luminate Milk Cleanser

This Cleanser was from my January Glossybox and I’ve absolutely loved using it, it’s so creamy (as you’d expect from a milk cleanser!). It removed my makeup with ease – even my eye makeup, leaving my skin feeling clean, smooth and fresh. Sometimes I find cleansers can be quite drying to my skin but that’s not that case with this one. Disappointingly though I have been looking to purchase another one of these and I can’t find a UK website to buy one from although on the Glossybox website it does tell me this would retail for £13.60.

Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundation

This Foundation has to be one of my all time favourite drugstore Foundations. I had this in the shade Vanilla Clair, although in all honestly I could probably have done with going one shade darker – I don’t know why but for some reason I went through a faze of thinking I was paler than I am!! However that being said it was easy enough to darken it up with some bronzer. This is a light/medium Foundation but it is easily buildable if you like something heavier. It’s non greasy, doesn’t oxidise and it applies evenly. I buy mine from Superdrug and it retails at £10.99.

Decleor Hydra Floral BB Cream

My mum actually gave this to me about a year ago from out of a QVC TSV she bought. The thing I love the most about this is the frangrance, it’s literally like summer in a bottle! It’s so floral and pretty, I just love putting it on. This is a BB cream so your not going to get a super heavy coverage like you would from a foundation, but this is just perfect for a hot day when your looking to brighten up your skin but you don’t want to feel like you’ve got a full face of makeup on. You can purchase this from the Look Fantastic website and it is £22.05 (what a funny price! Why the 5p? Are they sending it in a carrier bag?!).

Bee Good Firm And Plump Moisturiser

Now I know this post is supposed to be for products that I have used up this month but I do have a couple of things that I just don’t want to use anymore, and this is one of them. Unfortunately this is just not for me, mainly because of the overpowering Lemon scent. I just can’t bare it! It’s too strong and I always end up washing it off! For that reason this is going in the bin. The Bee Good Firm And Plump Moisturiser can be purchased from the Bee Good website and it is £9 for 15ml.

Caudalie Mosturising Sorbet

I’m not going to say much about this one because I have reviewed it before. I have literally got about 5 or 6 of these little tubes because they’ve been in various beauty boxes over the past few months. This is a tube that I had sitting on my bookcase and I used it everytime I couldn’t be bothered to walk upstairs and get my main moisturiser lol! I quite like it, it does the job! The full size of this will cost you £23 from the Naturisimo website.

Makeup Forever Excessive Lash Mascara

This is another one that is not an actual Empty, it’s just something that I don’t rate. I found this just went clumpy on me. No matter how I applied it, it just clumped up. Luckily this was just a sample sized Mascara that I got from Love Me Beauty before I unsubscribed. The Makeup Forever Excessive Lash Mascara retails at £19 from Debenhams.

Molton Brown Dewy Lily Of The Valley And Star Anise Bath And Shower Gel

This was a sample that I got in my Tili Box and I have absolutely loved it. It smells so gorgeous! It lathers up beautifully. There’s not much else to say about this except it’s just lovely to use. The full size is available from the John Lewis website for £18. It’s a bit of an indulgence but totally worth it!

Sephora Lotus Sleeping Mask

A lovely friend brought me this back from New York last year. Although it’s quite a small little pot it actually goes a long way and I got 4 full face uses out of this. I applied this once a week after my night time cleanse and it was such a treat for my skin. In the morning when I woke up my skin was so soft and plump and it felt really hydrated. This was from Sephora and a quick look on the website tells me it was $4, which is around £3.25.

Milani Easy Brow Tinted Fiber Gel

In a nutshell I hated this. I just did nothing, I’m not even convinced I could ever get any out of the tube. I purchased this from Beauty Bay because I absolutely love all the other Milani products I have in my collection and I was expecting the same level of quality from this but sadly that wasn’t the case. So in the bin this goes! This is on the Beauty Bay website for £9 but honestly save your money – it’s absolute rubbish!

N.4 Restore and Repair Oil

N.4 Restore and Repair Oil is basically a conditioning oil that you apply to your hair after you have washed and towel dried it. It is VERY concentrated so you only need to use the tiniest amount. I found that this made my hair quite greasy so I used it as an overnight treatment and washed my hair in the morning. Using it like that made this product work for me, I found my hair was softer, smoother and it wasn’t as fly away as it normally would be. This retails at £18.60 for 60ml and you can find it on Birchbox.com.

La Roche-Posay Redermic R Eyes

This was a sample sachet that I got from the Feel Unique Pick n Mix service. I got about 5 uses out of this altogether but to be honest I wasn’t that impressed – I found it really greasy. I’m glad I got a sample before I thought about purchasing the full size product. If you want to buy the full size product it will cost you £20.80 from the Escentual website.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz

I bought this because I already use the Dipbrow Pomade and I love it, so I thought that for when I don’t have as much time to do my makeup I would try this. Sadly it just doesn’t live up to the Pomade. I got it in the shade Blonde and I just couldn’t get any payoff from it at all. I was pressing on it so hard I was worried I was going to snap it! £15.50 most definitely not well spent! I’ll be sticking to my Dipbrow Pomade.

So that’s it! Those are the products that I used up (or threw away!) in the months of January and February 2017. What have you been using?

Birchbox February 2017

I was super excited from the start this month to receive my February Birchbox because I knew that there was a full sized Spectrum Eyeshadow brush in this months box and also because we got the chance to choose the colour of our boxes as well. I chose this pretty green and white leaf design because I liked it the best, the other option was a blue background with pink leaves.

In my Birchbox this month I received a Keeome Hydration Therapy Mask, a Pop Beauty Eyeshadow Trio, the Brighten Up Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator from Vasanti, a leave in conditioner spray from Beaver and of course the full sized Spectrum Eyeshadow brush.

Overall I am quite happy with this months box and I will definitely give everything a try.

Look Incredible January 2017

If you’ve been following my blog for the past few weeks, then you will know that I have been rather disappointed with the Beauty Box Subscriptions that I have recently received. Both Glossybox and Birchbox’s January boxes left me feeling slightly underwhelmed so I decided to have a look and try and find another subscription service that could possibly be better. I came across the Look Incredible website and thought that it looked good – it seemed to suggest that it would have a good mix of makeup and beauty products from better brands and always full sized products. At £18.99 plus p&p it is a little bit more expensive than Birchbox and Glossybox but I decided to give it ago.

My first impressions of the box wern’t good, the box itself is just a bit plain and boring looking and my one was a bit scraped and scratched so that left me a bit anxious to open it. However, when I did open it I was pleasantly surprised! Aside from the poor excuse for shredded paper I found inside (literally a small handful, what’s the point ?!) I found 5 full sized products and I’m actually quite happy with them!

Inside my box was the cutest Too Faced Brush (it’s so soft, I can’t wait to use it!), a Rosie for Autograph Mascara (I’m excited to try this as I’ve never had a product from this brand before), a Bee Good Honey and Camelina Facial Exfoliator (I’ve had this before and really like it), a Bare Minerals Daily Recovery Concentrate and a Bare Minerals 5 in 1 BB Advanced Performance Eyeshadow. So as the saying goes – never judge a book by its cover – I was actually quite excited by what I found inside January’s Look Incredible Box and for now I will be staying subscribed. Can’t wait to see what’s in February’s box.

Birchbox January 2017

Yesterday I received my January Birchbox and I feel pretty much the same way I did about Glossybox when that arrived – underwhelmed. In fact the only thing stopping me from cancelling my subscription to Birchbox this month is the fact that in next months box there is a full sized Spectrum brush. So that means you’ve got one month to buck your ideas up Birchbox!

In this months Birchbox I received a Lord And Berry Crayon Concealer (which looks too dark for me), a Whish Shaving Cream (which feels virtually empty), a Monu Refreshing Spray Mist (meh!), a Merci Handy New Waves Hand Cream (seriously Birchbox how many Hand Creams do you think a girl needs ??!) and a Nuxe Oil Sample (the only thing I’m happy to receive). So we will see what happens next month but I dare say I may soon be cancelling my Birchbox subscription.
